The latest polling on the top state races was released over the weekend and it shows shows Republican incumbent Governor Greg Abbott leading Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke by seven points, 51% to 44 %. The Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation along with TEGNA Texas television stations conducted the polling and noted that, “Gov. Abbott’s strength among rural and Anglo voters continues to bolster his intransigent structural support in the 2022 race for Texas Governor.” In the race for Lt. Governor, Republican incumbent Dan Patrick holds a six-point lead over Democrat Mike Collier, 48% to 42% among likely voters. Patrick also enjoys an eight-point advantage over Collier among the most likely (almost certain) voters, holding a 50% to 42% lead there. In the Attorney General race, Republican incumbent Ken Paxton leads Democrat Rochelle Garza by five points, 47% to 42%, among likely voters. In this race, only 8% of likely voters and 6% of most likely voters remain undecided. This latest poll was a survey of 1,172 most likely voters. in the second week of September.


Kilgore Police say an arrest Saturday night resulted in the seizure of several large bags of ecstasy, one large bag of ecstasy laced gummy worms, crack cocaine and a pistol. The suspect had been staying at a local bed and breakfast and is now in Kilgore Police custody.


The 106th East Texas State Fair is expected to release weekend attendance figures sometime today. Crowds were steady in the evening hours on Friday, the opening day. At the end of this week, the Texas State Fair opens in Fair Park.
